CAMPUS MAINTENANCE
Introduction
The upkeep of any school campus is integral to creating a conducive learning environment. A well-maintained campus not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of the school but also promotes the health and safety of students and staff. At KGHS, concerns such as the presence of potentially hazardous creatures like snakes have highlighted the need for improved campus maintenance. This proposal outlines a plan for campus upkeep, including hiring an additional custodian, as well as enhancing technology resources for the students and faculty.
Current Situation
Currently, KGHS employs one custodian, funded by the community, to maintain the extensive campus grounds. However, the sole custodian has expressed that the size of the campus makes it challenging to manage effectively. This has underscored the necessity for additional support.
Proposed Methodology
To address this issue, the Foundation proposes hiring a second custodian, preferably female, to begin in September 2025. This custodian will assist in maintaining the grounds and will also be responsible for cleaning classrooms and restrooms daily, especially after classes. This dual role will ensure that the campus remains clean and safe for all users.
Cost Implications
Custodian Salary: 42,000n/month
Incidentals (soap, toilet paper, etc.): To be provided by the Parents Teachers Association
Manual Lawn Mower: 100,000n (one-time purchase)
Total Annual Cost: 664,000n
Recurring Costs: 565,000n/year (custodian salary)
Source of Funding: Membership Account
TECHNOLOGY
Importance of Technology
In the 21st century, technology is essential for educational advancement. Computer and software literacy are vital skills for students, and the introduction of technology into the curriculum can significantly enhance learning experiences.
Current Situation
The RS Government has committed to hiring a technology teacher and providing computers and associated software for student and teacher use. However, to ensure these resources are effectively utilized, a maintenance plan is necessary.
Proposed Methodology
With the 30 computers on campus, the Foundation aims to establish a maintenance program to ensure all computers remain functional. Ene Taylor, a passionate advocate for technology, has volunteered to coordinate with the technology teacher to develop this program and implement innovative teaching approaches.
Conclusion
The proposed initiatives for campus maintenance and technology enhancement are crucial for fostering a safe, clean, and technologically advanced learning environment at KGHS. By hiring an additional custodian and ensuring the proper maintenance of technology resources, we can significantly improve the overall educational experience for students and staff alike. The Foundation is committed to these improvements and looks forward to the support of the community in implementing these essential changes.
